out of high school i remember the minimum requirements were a 3.7 (unweighted) and a 1350SAT or 31ACT. Not sure what it is on the new SAT. But you would have to be above that to even be considered for the 5 year. Otherwise it would be the 6 year program. And what the 5 year program was is if you have above a 3.2 and 17 in all areas, UOP would guarantee you an INTERVIEW, not a spot in the dental class. This made it hard to apply else where esp. since you don't have a B.S. degree. The 6 yr plan gives you a degre, so you could apply to other schools. Just a thought to consider.

I was just at a UOP interview with a kid in this program. His stats were ridiculous...like 4.0 GPA from high school.

But, you are asking in the wrong place as most of us on SDN are older adn also NOT in the accelerated UOP programs. Why not just call the school itself.

Yeah that kid was pretty cool. He was 19 years old and the rest of us were like 35. I didnt know anything about his stats though.

I asked the kid at one point if he had like a 4.0 in order to get into the program and he kinda just shrugged...so i took that as a yes.

-i am in uop's accelerated dental program. I'm a 3rd year in the 3+3 program. For the 2+3 program, the requirements are a 3.7 GPA and a 1350 on the SATs with a minimum of 630 on verbal. if you go to the uop website, you can find out more info about the program. Most of the people i know who got into the 2+3 program had 4.0 gpas in high school. Actually, a lot of the people in the dental program (2+3, 3+3, and 4+3) had 4.0 gpas. What reallly designated people in their program was their sat score.

-if you are in the 2+3 and 3+3 program, you don't need to get your bachelor's degree, but when you apply to dental school, u can basically only apply to uop dental school. The program does not guarantee u admission into the dental school, it only guarantees you an interview if u meet the requirements. FOr instance, my requirement was a 17 dat and 3.0 gpa. but the requirement has gone up for the classes below me to i don't know what.

-most people in the 2+3 program end up moving to the 3+3 program b/c it is too difficult or they want to get their b.s. In the 3+3 program, we don't have to get our b.s but usually everyone does. We just get it in 3 years b/c we pack in units a semester, take lots of summer school, and come in with lots of units from high school.

-in my year (2004), we had about 35 students in the accelerated program (spread out in the 2+3, 3+3 and 4+3). i don't know how many applied. I know that it has gotten harder now to get into the program. it is more competitive now and the current 2nd year students all in the pre dental program had really impressive high school stats.

From what I understand, if you get an interview before Dec 1st at Pacific then you are good to go. So if you have a guaranteed invite then you are 90% assured of getting in. Of course, this is hearsay but fairly reliable hearsay from current students.

yeah if u get an interview before dec 1st, then u have an over 90% of getting in. Most people in the accelerated dental program get dental interviews if they meet the requirements. THere are some people in the program who don't meet the requirements, and they actually end up dropping the program and switching majors, they don't bother applying, or they move down to a longer program in order to raise their gpas.

-but the program accepts really smart studentes, and eveyrone in the program (except a few) end up doing really well in college and getting high dat scores. so most people in the program get accepted to uop dental school

-how was the uop dental interview? mine is coming up soon

the interview at UOP was great! it was the most relaxed and easy going interview i've had yet. it's more or less an oppourtunity for the school to get to know you a bit better and vice versa.

Totally easy interviews. The faculty interview is pretty chill. A couple of the obvious questions like, why dentistry? what will you bring to UOP dental school? and Tell me about yourself.

Beyond that, not too much except a conversation.

Student interview is more of a chance (not that they don't give you about 100 of these) to ask students about the school. My student never asked a real question (not even why dentistry or stuff like that), we just talked. I asked him more questions about his past than he did about mine. By the time I had my student interview, I was out of questions to ask...I even told him that, and he just kinda laughed and agreed that eventually you just run out of questions but the staff and students never stop asking if you have any more questions.
